Catalytic paint a pollution solution for Manila street artists
Feb. 21 – Manila’s street artists have joined the war on smog, using a pollution-eating paint for colorful murals adorning walls along the city’s busiest highway. Chemicals in the paint interact with sunlight to convert harmful pollutants into harmless molecules, reducing smog and helping residents breathe easier. Tara Cleary reports.

Kite company takes wind power to new heights
Feb. 20 – California-based startup Makani Power believes the future of clean, sustainable energy is in the skies. The company is developing kite technology they say harnesses wind power far more efficiently and at half the cost of current wind turbines in use today. Ben Gruber reports.

Feb. 17 – Whitney Houston’s family and friends, including her eighteen year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina, arrive at Whigham Funeral Home where the pop star’s body rests, ahead of her funeral.

Feb. 16 – London-based business Renew has reinvented the rubbish bin by building bomb-proof recycling points complete with LCD screens which show top news headlines, travel information and stock market data. Joanna Partridge reports

Geologists forecast “new cycle of large earthquakes” for Haiti
Feb. 15 – U.S. geologists in Haiti say the country should prepare for more devastating earthquakes like the one that killed more than 315,000 people in January, 2010. Studies of one particular fault line have convinced the scientists that the 2010 quake, which flattened entire suburbs, was merely the first in a new period of seismic activity for the region. Rob Muir reports.

Researchers see hopeful signs for Bhutan’s elusive snow leopard
Feb. 14 – Endangered snow leopards are thriving in Bhutan, according to a new report released by the World Wildlife Fund. Instead of attempting to track the leopards, researchers at the Wangchuck Centennial Park in Bhutan took a census of the wildlife on which the elusive leopards prey. Ben Gruber reports.

“Solid Rain” brings relief to drought-stricken Mexico
Feb. 13 – Farmers in drought-stricken Mexico are hailing a new, locally-developed water technology that’s keeping their crops alive during conditions that would normally kill them. The system, conceived and developed by a Mexico City chemical engineer, employs similar technology to that used in modern diapers. Tara Cleary reports.

Feb. 10 – Government declares a state of emergency as heavy rains and flooding hit Peru. Sarah Wali reports.
